Val David Harmon, 67, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Marietta, Georgia. Born on October 2, 1957, at Bessemer General Hospital in Alabama, Val lived a life full of laughter, quiet wisdom, and deep devotion to his family.
A 1976 graduate of Oak Grove High School, Val was valedictorian of his class and a proud member of the baseball team. He went on to work as a Quality Control Engineer at Aluma-Form, where he dedicated his professional life until retirement. Later in life, Val enjoyed traveling and spent time in Belize and Nicaragua.
Val’s greatest joys came from the simple pleasures of life—strumming his guitar, singing familiar tunes, and making his daughters and later grandsons laugh with his signature silliness. He had an eccentric sense of humor, a deep love for nature, and a passion for learning. Whether it was sharing a book, exploring the woods, or watching a game, Val found meaning in connection and quiet moments.
He was a steadfast and loving father to Elizabeth Pervorse (Justin) and Chelsea Ray (Nick), and a proud grandfather to Henry and Winston. Val is also survived by his sister Vicki Calvert (Kim), brother Steve Harmon, and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Rebecca Harmon, and his sister-in-law May.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home at 1498 5th Avenue in Pleasant Grove, Alabama. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose kindness, humor, and love will be deeply missed.
