Tezzie Rae Maddox

Tezzie Rae Maddox, age 93, of McCalla, lovingly called "Mawmaw", passed away February 8, 2026. Rae was born July 5, 1932 to the late Erby and Addie Hardy Ward. Also preceding her in death is her husband of 67 years, James Maddox, granddaughter, Lindy Michelle Maddox, great granddaughters Maddox Elise Hodge and Valley Jule Maddox and daughter in law Julie Maddox.

Survivors include her children, Michael Maddox of Pleasant Grove, Richard Maddox of Fayette, Terri Maddox Lamons (Reggie) of McCalla, Randall Maddox (Susan) of Pleasant Grove, Jeffrey Maddox (Rhonda) of Springville and sister, Linda McCluskey (Ronnie) of Winfield.

Our Mawmaw had an exceptional career. First, as a registrar for Wilkes School in Midfield, Al and then as Postmaster for the United States Postal Service for 43 years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove, where she humbly served the Lord through her dedication and community outreach. Mawmaw had many hobbies. She loved to garden, can fresh vegetables, cook big family meals and was a wonderful, self taught seamstress. She put her heart and soul into everything she did, but her true passion was her family. With 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, Mawmaw never missed a birthday, celebration or an accomplishment for any. The genuine love she had for each member of her family was evident by her acts of service for 93 years. Her legacy of love, sacrifice, hard work, and gentle yet no-nonsense advise has shaped each one of us, and we will carry that on through our lives. Mawmaw is deeply and earnestly missed.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Savage and Bro. Daniel Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in Forest Grove Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove in her memory.
