Samuel Nissley Stayer

Dr. Samuel Nissley Stayer died peacefully at home attended to by family on February 29th, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lee, his daughter, Caroline, and his son-in-law, Alex. He was born in Lancaster, PA and was dedicated to celebrating his family history and Mennonite heritage. Students lined up to enroll in his history classes at Birmingham Southern College, where he spent his career as a professor. Sam loved learning, teaching, and singing demanding choral music. Those who had the good fortune to know him will remember him as curious, kind, and a beautiful friend.
