Ronald Dean Sparks, 74, of McCalla, Alabama, passed away peacefully at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Ron spent his early years there before moving to Hueytown, where he attended Hueytown High School. He married his high school sweetheart and began his career in the metal building industry. He later founded his own metal building construction business, which continues to operate today. Ron’s entrepreneurial spirit showed early—he started working as a paper boy and eventually managed his own paper route. That drive stayed with him throughout his life.
Ron was known for his strong work ethic, fairness in business, and wonderful sense of humor. He loved a good joke, Alabama football, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. He told some of the best stories, which will surely live on for generations. Ron loved his country and was proud to be an American. Above all, he wanted everyone to know how deeply he loved the Lord. He never met a stranger and took every opportunity to share the gospel.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Harriet White Sparks; his daughters, Melissa Sparks Banks and Pamela Sparks; his son, Ronald Aaron Sparks and wife Brittany Sparks; and his son-in-law, Andy Thompson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Morgan Banks, Jacob Banks, Nicole Pate, Alec Roberts, Collin Miller, Mattie Thompson, Mallorie Thompson, Mitchell Thompson, Layla Sparks, Alyssa Sparks, Daniel Sparks, Eli Sparks, Kenna Townsend, Kolton Townsend and Konor Townsend; his great-grandchildren, Collins Pate, Christian Pate, and Cannon Pate; and his siblings, Jimmy Sparks, Donny Sparks, and Belinda Hunnicutt.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Monica Sparks Thompson; his parents, Dolores Headley and Harry Sparks; and his brothers, Robert Sparks and John Curtis Headley.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home, 1498 5th Avenue, Pleasant Grove, Alabama. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, November 20, at 11:00 a.m., with burial immediately afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ron’s memory to Sav-A-Life, Samaritan’s Purse, or The Gideons International.
