Nina Bowen Lovell Boone passed away peacefully on July 16, 2019, at her son’s home in Murphy, North Carolina. She was 87 years old.
Nina was born in Meigs, Georgia on April 26, 1932, to Pascal and Hattie (Stanley) Bowen. She and her twin sister, Nona, were the last born of twelve siblings. Nina was the last surviving sibling.
As a young lady, because of an existing medical condition, Nina was told that she would probably never be able to give birth. Because of her great desire to be a mother, Nina prayed about this and received assurance from The Lord. Psalm 128:3 was the promise she was given: “Thy children shall be like olive plants round about thy table.” Evidence of the fulfillment of that promise are her survivors: three children - Rhoda Vaughn of Northport, Alabama; Ruth (Jack) Smith of Gardendale, Alabama; Joe (DeDe) Lovell of Murphy, North Carolina; eight grandchildren - Jimmy (Dana) Vaughn; Jennifer (Landon) Franklin; Jake (Amiee) Smith; Carrie (Eric) McDaniel; Leslie (Blake) Cochran; Matthew, Josh, and Andy Lovell; fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her second husband, Algie Boone of McComb, Mississippi and his three children, Dan (Denise) Boone, Vickie (Chuck) Watson, Rose (Brian) Alison and their families, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Rev. Louis Lovell; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clara and Joseph Lovell, and eleven siblings.
Nina served with her husband, Louis, as he pastored several congregations in Mississippi. She had a gift for detailed organization and was the district office and camp administrator, serving faithfully under seven district superintendents in the Church of the Nazarene. She continued this calling when they moved to Alabama. She was very involved in local and district missions, both in Mississippi and in Alabama. She loved to teach Sunday School, leading and shepherding senior adults. This was one of her greatest joys during her retirement years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Gardendale Church of the Nazarene, 1800 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, Alabama. Homegoing Celebration will follow at 11:00 AM; interment will be at Moncrief Cemetery, Gardendale, Alabama. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Jake Smith, J.T. Smith, Blake Cochran, Eric McDaniel, Landon Franklin, Ethan Franklin, Sam Franklin, and Zeb Franklin. Pastor Jimmy Vaughn will officiate.
