Myra Sue Williams died peacefully at her home in Wilsonville, Alabama, on April 30, 2020. Sue was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on April 9, 1923, youngest of three daughters born to Frederick A. B. Freeman and Vivian Higgins Freeman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Florence Augusta Freeman King and Annie Hazel Freeman Dean, and her love and lifelong friend, former husband James Roscoe Williams. She is survived by her nephew, Howard Freeman Tucker; nieces: Gloria Bush (Jerry) and Marilyn Reece; great-nieces: Janice T. Blackmon (Jim), Rachel Miller (Michael) and Joan Swan; great-nephew: David Bush (Brenda); great-great-nieces: Stephanie Dorough, Emily Dorough, Abigail Bush, Madeleine Bush, and Hannah Miller; and great-great-nephews: Luke Miller, Aaron Swan and Adam Swan. The family wishes to extend special thanks to her caregiver, Rhonda McDowell, for her loving and compassionate care in Sue’s final years. Sue attended Phillips High School and Birmingham-Southern College, where she majored in music and sang with the college opera and choruses. Music remained an important part of her life as she sang in the choirs at Highlands United Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She resided in Pleasant Grove for many years and was active in her church. Sue was a longtime employee of Protective Life Insurance Company, and upon retiring she enjoyed creating beautiful ceramics. Throughout her life Sue was a talented seamstress, designing clothes as well as dressing dolls for charity. She loved to travel, especially throughout the West. Her nieces and nephews were the delighted recipients of her love, her interests, and her vivacious personality. Sue always had a pet cat to which she gave a life of luxury and devotion. Sue’s family and friends will miss her positive outlook on life, her abundance of wholesome humor, and her generous appreciation for the talents and activities of others. A private burial will take place on Monday, May 4, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Patterson-Forest Grove Cemetery. A live-stream will be available on the Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home and Crematory Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 452 9th Avenue, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127 or Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue, 3432 Old Columbiana Rd, Hoover, AL 35226. In compliance with State of Alabama law, gatherings of more than 10 are prohibited and Social Distancing is required.
