Mary Lou Cason Hood, of McCalla, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born on January 13, 1934, in Bessemer, Alabama, to Marvin William Cason and Eunice Ramsay Cason.
Mary Lou was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be remembered for her love of family, her warm spirit, her faith, her love of music, and the many lives she touched throughout her 92 years. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life.
Mary Lou retired from the United States Department of Defense, where she worked on important projects during her career. She also enjoyed being part of her office bowling team and had a fun competitive spirit. In 1970, she was proudly crowned the Flaming Bomb Club Queen, a treasured memory that reflected both her personality and her ability to bring joy and laughter to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin William and Eunice Ramsay Cason; her beloved husband, Joe Thomas Hood; her three older sisters; and her grandchildren, Ashley Jordan, Joshua Jordan, Jason Cosby, Justin Cosby, and Christopher Dew.
She leaves behind her sister, Flora Ann Cason Brown, and her children: Mary (Heyward) Oglesby, Ray (Debra) Jordan, Kay (Don) Hagood, and Joanne (Ed) Fitts. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, extended family members, and friends who will cherish her memory and the love she shared with them.
Mary Lou’s life was one filled with family, faith, music, service, laughter, and memories. From singing on live radio as a young girl to serving her country through her work with the Department of Defense, she lived a full and meaningful 92 years. Her legacy will continue through the family she loved so dearly and the countless memories she leaves behind.
Though she will be deeply missed, Mary Lou’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visitation is Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Canaan Baptist Church 2544 Morgan Rd. Bessemer. Service 12 noon.
