LeAnn Pierson

LeAnn Shelton Pierson was born on April 6,1956 in Birmingham, AL & passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on August 25, 2026 at Grandview Hospital. Everyday for 70 years, she lived her life by helping to spread joy, love & laughter to others by her songs & her presence.

She had a gift for sharing/bringing joy & laughter to her family, friends & to anyone else around her. LeAnn would light up any room she walked into. She loved the Lord & loved to sing from a very early age in church, then later in life sang in a gospel quartet. She had a beautiful voice & music was a huge part of who she was. Her personality was impossible to forget. She was always the life of the party & there was never a dull moment with her around. She would make the ordinary moments unforgettable with her sense of humor.

Leann also had a love for shoes, purses, and jewelry. She loved putting an outfit together, and she believed everything should match perfectly. If Leann walked into a room, there was a good chance her shoes, purse, jewelry, and outfit were perfectly coordinated. It was simply part of who she was.

She was born & raised in Lipscomb, AL. She married her high school sweetheart, Dewayne Pierson & they were blessed & shared 3 children together. They remained friends throughout her life & he helped to care for her during her stays in the hospital.

Family was at the center of LeAnn’s life. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend & so much more!

She leaves behind her a loving husband, Mac Jenkins. He has shared her life & walked beside her faithfully for the last 22 years.

She has 2 children who remain to carry her memory forward, her daughter, Joniqua McCluskey (Mike), as well as her son, Sheldon Pierson (Jennifer).

LeAnn had a very special relationship with her granddaughter Lele Pierce , who she raised as her very own.

Being a mother was her greatest joy! Her children meant everything to her & there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.

She was abundantly blessed with 14 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren, who will miss her greatly!

She is also survived by her brother, Bubba Shelton (Faye), her sister, Kamin Medders, as well as her beloved best friend, Lynn Wallace; and her 2 step daughters, Jessie Hastings & Jamie Jenkins.

As well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family &friends.

LeAnn also knew heartbreak. Six years ago she experienced the unimaginable pain of losing her daughter, Allyson Collier. That loss broke her heart & she carried that grief with her daily. Losing her left an empty place in LeAnn’s heart that never completely went away.

She also experienced the loss of her stepson, Andrew; her granddaughter, Harley; and her parents, Leon “Puddle” Shelton & Barbara Shelton.

The past several years were difficult for Leann. After multiple unsuccessful knee replacement attempts, she ultimately faced the loss of her leg. Through years of physical challenges and pain, she continued to love her family, hold onto her faith, find reasons to laugh, and remain the woman they knew and loved.

Today, her family finds comfort in believing that Leann is no longer separated from those she loved and lost. She is reunited with Allyson, Andrew, Harley, Nanny B & Paw Paw. She is free from the pain and struggles she endured during her final years.

During her final days, she was blessed with a wonderful group of nurses in the Grandview MICU who cared for her with compassion and love. They comforted her, cared for her, and stood by her during moments when her family could not be there. Her family will forever be grateful for the kindness, dignity, and love they showed LeAnn.

And those who knew LeAnn will always have plenty of stories to tell—including her legendary cooking skills. She had an ability to burn just about everything she cooked! Those funny memories are part of what made her so special and will bring smiles and laughter to her family for years to come.

Leann's earthly voice may be quiet now, but the love, laughter, faith, and memories she left behind will never fade.

Her song will live on in our hearts forever.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
