Lawrence “Dan” Byrne, 76, of Northport, Alabama, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 6, 2025. Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, on March 28, 1949 to the late Lawrence Michael and Dorothy Beatty Byrne.

Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army as a SP5 Military Police officer during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970.                    After his service, he worked in the coal mines until retirement.

Dan’s life was marked by his unwavering faith and dedication to God. His ministry was lived out daily in how he treated others, with love, humility, and grace. His example continues to inspire all who knew him.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Smith Byrne; his daughters, Renee Schoppe (Todd) and Danilyn Thevanayagam (Sam); and his grandchildren: Caleb and Hudson Schoppe, Micah, Nick (Shannon), Dylan, Mya, and Savannah Thevanayagam. He is also survived by his siblings: William “Bill” Byrne (Mary) of Dilliner, PA, Ron “Ronnie” Byrne (Sandy) of Greensboro, PA, and Sandy (Byrne) Groover (Tobe) of Greensboro, PA; his sister-in-law Siobhan Byrne, widow of his late brother Randy Byrne of Greensboro, PA; and Faye Beatty, widow of his late brother Albert “Abe” Beatty, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Michael Byrne and Dorothy Beatty Byrne, and his siblings Albert “Abe” Beatty of Brave, PA and Randy Byrne of Dilliner, PA. Though our hearts grieve, we rejoice in knowing Dan is now in the presence of the Lord. As Scripture reminds us:

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8

You can honor Dan’s legacy by loving others well, living with integrity, and walking in faith — just as he did every day.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM with services beginning at 12:00 PM at Northport Church of God, 2412 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd, Northport, Al 35476. Interment will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Gardens, 5434 Old Birmingham Hwy, Tuscaloosa, Al 35404. Bishop Greg Strickland officiating services.
