Karen dedicated twenty years to her professional career at Protective Life Insurance Company before taking on a new role as a systems analyst for the City of Birmingham. Her commitment to her work reflected her strong work ethic and passion for serving her community.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years, Kenneth Shadix, who stood by her side through life's journeys. Karen was the proud mother of two: her son, Austin Daniel Shadix, and her daughter, Amber Mezick. She also found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Felix Shadix, Kayla Parrish, and Ellie Marcel. In addition to her immediate family, Karen’s life was enriched by her sister, Kim Mezick, her brother, Thomas Mezick, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all loved her dearly.
Karen’s legacy will endure through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, laughter, and unwavering support. Her memory will be forever cherished as those who loved her continue to carry her spirit in their hearts.
