Joseph Edward Roy

Joseph Edward Roy, born on April 16, 1940, departed this life on June 12, 2025, in Bessemer, Alabama. He was a man defined by his quiet strength, a devoted family member and a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Joseph lived a life characterized by hard work and dedication, working at Winn Dixie as a butcher and then retiring from Pullman Standard where he made his mark as a skilled welder.

A private man by nature, he carried himself with a sense of dignity and pride that left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Those closest to him will remember him not just for his talents but for the warmth and support he offered, a steadfast pillar of strength in the face of life’s challenges.

Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Staniel Sr. and Dorothy Roy, who laid the foundation of love and resilience upon which he built his life. He also mourned the loss of his wife, Betty Roy; a brother, Staniel Roy, Jr.; sister, Frances R. Williams, his cherished daughter, Tammy R. Salter, and his grandson, Justin Salter. Each of these profound losses shaped him, and in their memory, he carried the lessons of love and sacrifice forward.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted niece, Denise Whatley; nephews, Michael Roy, Robert Roy, and Jeffrey Roy; and special relatives, Eric, Chad, Kaitlyn, Matthew, and Logan Whatley. Their lives were enriched by his presence, and they hold dear the memories of shared laughter, heartfelt conversations, and the silent understanding that came from being part of his world.

He will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery alongside his daughter and wife. Joseph Edward Roy was a man who understood the value of family, legacy, and the simple joys of life. His absence will be felt deeply, but his spirit will guide and inspire those he leaves behind, as they carry forth his memory with love and respect.
