Joe Lee Tully Sr, age 83, of Quinton Alabama, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 15th 2018.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Rev. Hugh L. Tully Sr, mother, Josephine Allison Tully, brother, Hugh L. Tully Jr and sister, Mae Tully Comer Osbourne.
Survived by his loving wife of 59 years Carolyn Tully, sons, Joe Tully, Jr. of Homewood, children, Courtney Cook (Paul), Chloe Tully; Tom Tully (Mary Kay) of Pleasant Grove, children, Cole Tully, Jamie Tully, grandson, Elliott Tully, Tim Tully (Beth) of Trussville, children, Nick Tully and Tyler Tully and Jeff Tully of Quinton; sister, Evelyn Tully Williams. Nieces Sarah Camp and Glenda Holder, nephew Hugh Comer.
Joe was born and raised in Wylam, Alabama, was a longtime member of Wylam Baptist Church and a member of Boy Scout Troop 40 where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. Joe graduated from Ensley High School where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He also attended Itawamba Community College in Fulton, MS where he was a member of the football and baseball team. He raised his family in Pleasant Grove, AL before retiring to Quinton, AL on the banks of the Warrior River. He spent many days on the river riding his Seadoo and driving his pontoon boat with his special friend and co-caption Tommy Glover. Joe retired from Acipco as a member of the construction department after 35 years of service.
He also retired from Argo First Baptist Church in Argo (Walker County) Alabama after 18 years as pastor. After his retirement Joe and Carolyn joined First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove where they remain as members today.
Joe dearly loved his church and work families, his immediate and extended families, but most of all his beloved wife Carolyn. They have traveled, spent time with and dearly loved their grandchildren and great grandson, enjoyed friends near and far and most importantly of all loved and obeyed their lord and savior Jesus Christ. Proverbs 3: 5-6
Special thanks to Kindred Hospice and Gary and Judy Robinson who have been with Joe and Carolyn throughout Joe's struggle with dementia.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, 724 4th Street, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127 with the funeral beginning at 11:00. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Charles Click, Rev. Daniel Wilson and Gary Robinson officiating.
