James Michael (Mike) Maddox entered his forever home on February 10, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1952 in Pleasant Grove, AL. There he put down roots and raised his family in his hometown.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, James and Tezzie Rae Maddox of Pleasant Grove, wife Julie Maddox, daughter Lindy Michelle Maddox, and granddaughter Valley Maddox.
Michael is survived by his children Leslie Maddox Collier (Lee), Laney Maddox Savage (Wes), and Hunter Maddox (Amanda); siblings Ricky Maddox, Terri Maddox Lamons (Reggie), Randy Maddox (Susan), and Jeff Maddox (Rhonda); grandchildren Landon Collier, Lana Katherine Collier, Luke Savage, Lemmy Maddox, and Maisy James Maddox.
Michael was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Papa”. He enjoyed spending time on his farm in Oneonta, AL, growing vegetables in his backyard garden, and hunting at his family hunting club in Pineapple, AL. He was also an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Atlanta Braves. He was a talented guitar player and could be found picking and singing from time to time.
Michael served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 1974. After serving in the Air Force, Michael became a foreman at U.S. Steel until 1982. Soon after that, he began a long career in local law enforcement. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama Law Enforcement Academy in Tuscaloosa.
Michael was a dedicated public servant, serving and protecting local communities during his 40+ years of law enforcement. He served at the Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pleasant Grove Police Department. He was proud to serve alongside so many committed officers in law enforcement.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 in Patterson Forest Grove Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM. Rev. Les Savage officiating.
