James (Jim) Roscoe Briley, Jr., 82, of Hueytown, Alabama went to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 9, 2025. He was born on August 6, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia. Jim attended Shades Valley High School and UAB before graduating from Faulkner University; one of his cherished accomplishments. Jim was a highly successful sales person during his working career. Early in his career, he worked in the family business, “The Sewing Machine Exchange” in Birmingham, Alabama with his parents. After that he used his expertise in sales for many years in real estate, owning “Briley Siding,” and later selling siding for another company before he decided to retire and spend time enjoying life.

Jim enjoyed every minute of his life’s journey keeping the roads hot with Vicki, his wife of 47 years, antique shopping, purchasing and re-doing properties, and going joy-riding on day trips to various towns. Jim had a deep love for unique cars and spent many hours reading about antiques, old cars, and hot-rods, as well as going for long rides in the ones he owned. Love for animals ran strong in Jim’s heart and he loved and cared for many dogs and cats in his lifetime.

Jim made a profession of faith in God and was baptized at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in 1982. This, and his meeting and marrying the love of his life, Vicki, helped him reach a turning point in his life where he grew in his relationship with God and honoring and loving family and friends. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren - loving all the moments they shared with him and Vicki. Jim was a true southern gentleman as was evident the moment you met him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Julia Myron Hicks Briley and James Roscoe Briley Sr. and his son Ross Johnathan Briley. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Kay Golson Briley, and his beloved children, James (Jay) R. Briley, III (Julia) and Cynthia Briley Haupt, as well as his 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and friends.

The family is honoring Jim’s request to be cremated and to not have a formal funeral service. Please lift up the family with prayers - knowing that they are sad at his earthly departure; but not sad that he has gone to his heavenly home. Jim’s gift to you is two of his favorite bible verses. The first one is found in II Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” The second verse is one that he chose to live by every day: “Encourage others” which is found in Hebrews 3:13. God Bless!

Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Briley family during their time of bereavement. Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.pattersonfuneralhomes.com
