Donald Ray Harmon

Donald Ray Harmon, age 69, of Birmingport, Alabama, passed away peacefully and painlessly, surrounded by loved ones, on June 13, 2025, at 5:31 a.m.

He was born on December 3, 1955, in Birmingham, Alabama. Ray was a good friend to many, and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Odom and Charlotte Harmon, as well as his brother, David Harmon.

Ray is survived by his sister, Diane (Cliff) Miller; nephews, Jonathon (Jennifer) Miller, Austin Miller, and Buddy McDaniel. He is also survived by his two children, Donald Adam Harmon and Angel (Eric) Thompson; four grandchildren, Joseph Dylan Snider, Ronald Braden Hall, Emma Grace Harmon, and Olivia Thompson; and one great-grandchild, Braxton Lane Hall.

Ray grew up in Birmingport, where he spent most of his life. He loved fishing on the Warrior River with family and a slew of fishing buddies. He enjoyed westerns, racing, and hunting—and he could cook a mean meal with cornbread. In his younger years, he was quite the dancer.

Ray was known and loved by his community for his kind heart and fun sense of humor. A jack of many trades, he was considered the best roofer in the state and spent years trucking from coast to coast. He was a proud man who deeply loved his family and treated his friends like family.

Ray believed in the grace and mercy of Jesus. He isn’t truly gone—he’s just changed fishing spots, and he's saved a seat on the boat.
