David Ross Sanders, age 73, passed away on July 10, 2026. Born on June 30, 1953, in Bessemer, Alabama, David spent the last 47 years making his home in Pleasant Grove, where he built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and community.
David is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Gladys Sanders, his best friend and the love of his life; his daughters, Stacy Sanders Weselius (Kurt) and Danna Sanders Orton; his four cherished granddaughters, Olivia, Heidi, Haley, and Harper; and his brother, Mark Sanders (Sheila). He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Helen Sanders, Jr.
Above all else, David loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud daddy, and a beloved “Pop.” He took great joy in watching his daughters grow into strong women and was immensely proud of each of his granddaughters. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his greatest source of happiness.
David never met a stranger and had a unique gift for turning friends into family. He was known for his quick wit and his ability to keep everyone smiling. Those who knew him well often said that if David picked on you, it was his way of showing just how much he loved you.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, David grew up playing every sport he could and carried that passion throughout his life. He spent many years coaching youth baseball and softball and umpiring countless games, leaving a lasting impact on the young athletes he mentored. When he wasn't on the ballfield, he could often be found hunting, fishing, golfing, or cheering on Alabama football and softball, as well as the Atlanta Braves.
David wore many titles throughout his life—husband, daddy, Pop, brother, cousin, uncle, friend, coach, and outdoorsman—and he fulfilled each role with a generous heart and unwavering love. His presence, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
While his earthly body could not be healed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has been made whole again and is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father.
Services will be held at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home & Crematory in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
David's legacy of love, laughter, faith, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
