Charles Monroe Marcum, 83, of Concord, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Charles Monroe Marcum was born on July 19th, 1941, to Ralph (Joe)e Marcum and Anne Teal. He was married to Wanda Grubbs of Concord, Alabama. They had two children, Chris and Greg. They made their permanent home in Concord, Alabama. Charles was a faithful member of the Pine Lane Church of Christ. His faith was important to him. Within his last days, he spoke to a fellow Christian saying “I believe in prayer.” He taught his grandchildren how important it was to pray. He knew the Lord would care for him. Charles entrusted God with his life.
Charles began his military service on August 9, 1962, and served the U.S.S. Intrepid (CVS-11). He was a quartermaster in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed talking about his experiences at sea. He served until May 26, 1964. He later secured a job with Bellsouth where he worked until his retirement.
Charles was a proud husband and father. He was a loving grandfather and earned the name “Grandaddy”. He worked to become more Christ-like each day until his death. This made him the person his family loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe Marcum, and Ann Teal, and his daughter Christine Gill. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Marcum, his son, Greg Marcum, his brothers Jerry Marcum (Erika), and Ralph Marcum (Joy), his sisters Ginger Self, Dinah Arnold, Emily Reno, and Brenda Hickey (David), and his two grandchildren Alana Gill and Brody Gill.
Pallbearers are David Seals, Tim Hamrick, Greg Hamrick, Greg Willis, Nicholas Everett, and Tyler Bragwell.
Visitation will be held at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home on Forest Road in Pleasant Grove on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m., Buc Chumbley officiating. There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Highlands Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral.
